to configure and run fileserver at home
you may choose fileserver usage in place of usb external drive
- you have more than one computer at home
- you are, like me, prone to dismembering of machines

I use Pentium 166mmx machine for this purpose.
- silent. at times i do away with ALL fans.
- smaller power consumpion. this sounds like its not important, but once you do calculation on annual basis, you will be turning off even the monitor, rather than having it on stand by!
- cheap to service or replace

- even though BIOS of old motherboards would not detect hard disks, linux would readilly access them (Debian with ATC5000 mb) even when BIOS setting says 'none'. However, you may still have problems with booting.
