Installing MediaWiki on IBook
- I started with this MediaWiki page
- To install MediaWiki on my IBook I needed GD support in my php. That meant recompilation. I went to http://developer.apple.com/internet/opensource/php.html] and followed instructions, starting with php source download.
- To have GD functioning, you need to install graphic libraries (libjpeg, libtiff,libpng). To do this, according to instructions you need Fink. I downloaded Fink binary but got error "This Fink Installer is for OS X 10.4 only", despite running exactly that version on my IBook. After Software Upgrade (Finder > Software Update) to 10.4.6, Fink installation went fine.
- Another obstacle in following the above recipe I found with libpng. Installation of libjpeg and libtiff, using Fing, went fine. However, after executing, as suggested, 'shell> sudo /sw/bin/fink install libpng', I got 'Failed: no package found for specification 'libpng'!'. After a Google search I decided to shell> sudo /sw/bin/fink install libpng3'.
- I sort of finally gave up on this recipe after I had a look on this site. So I am continued following instructions on this phpmac.com page. Basically amounts to have to install libjpeg and libpnp from the source..

How do I eject CD?
- Eject as described here. You were right, its not intuitive.
How do I drag & drop files and not only shortcuts?
- Press ALT while dragging
I installed php from entropy site and its not working.
Test file with <? phpinfo() ?> produces nothing ie blank page.
- Try using <php? tag. If it works then you can try to venture to edit /usr/local/php5/lib/php.ini and set short_open_tag = On
